4th Asian Beach Games: Delarmino silver lang

PHUKET, Thailand – Nilamog ni  Pinoy muay thai fighter Phillip Delarmino ang mukha ng kanyang Thai rival mula sa kanyang matutulis na sipa ngunit hindi ito naging sapat para masikwat niya ang gintong medalya sa 4th Asian Beach Games.

“I failed to knock him out,’’ sabi ng 24-anyos na si Delarmino ng Dumangas, Iloilo sa kabiguan niyang makuha ang puntos sa mga judges para makuntento sa silver medal. “But I clearly won that fight.’’

Tinalo ni Luangpon si Delarmino, 4-1, sa men’s 54kg finale sa Patong Cen­tral Beach.”

Tinapos ng Team Philippines ang kanilang kampanya sa continental meet sa pagtabla sa pang-14 sa Hong Kong sa nakolektang 3 golds, 2 silvers at 7 bronze medals.

Ito ang pinakamagandang kampanya ng bansa sa biennial Games na ini­lunsad noong 2008 sa Bali, Indonesia.

Kabuuang 77 Filipino athletes ang sumabak sa 16 sports.

“We only hoped to win a gold because we hadn’t won a gold before, but our athletes gave us three. I couldn’t ask for more,’’ wika ni Philippine chef de mission Richard Gomez.

Inangkin ng Thailand ang overall title sa kinolektang 56 gold, 36 silver at 33 bronze medals kasunod ang China (16-11-21) at South Korea (9-14-14) sa pagtatapos ng 45-nation meet na inorganisa ng Olympic Council of Asia.
