WIMBLEDON – Umabante si world number one Rafael Nadal sa third round ng Wimbledon matapos patalsikin ang hard-hitting Czech na si Lukas Rosol, 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4, 6-4.
Noong 2012 ay sinibak ni Rosol si Nadal sa second round ng torneo.
“Today is another history, another story,” sabi ni Nadal. “I needed to find the solution. Finally I did.”
Sa kanilang rematch ay hindi nasindak si Rosol sa 14-times grand slam champion sa fourth set ang nagbigay ng panalo kay Nadal.
“The difference maybe is one point,” ani Nadal, nakalasap ng first-round loss kay Steve Darcis noong nakaraang taon.
Tuwing nakakalampas siya sa second round ay nagtuluy-tuloy siyang magkampeon noong 2008 at 2010.
Pumasok din sa third round si Australian wildcard Nick Kyrgios na tinalo si 13th seed Richard Gasquet, 3-6, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-5, 10-8.
Ang kanyang third-round opponent na si Czech Jiri Vesely ang tumalo kay French 24th seed Gael Monfils, 7-6 (3), 6-3, 6-7 (1), 6-7 (3), 6-4.
Sa women’s division, tinalo ni Serena Williams, hangad ang kanyang ikaanim na singles title, si South African Chanelle Scheepers, 6-1, 6-1.
Giniba naman ni fifth seed Maria Sharapova si Timea Bacsinszky 6-2, 6-1.
