Garcia sa Asiad athletes: ‘Gawin n’yo ang makakaya n’yo’

MANILA, Philippines - Halos tatlong buwan bago ang 17th Asian Ga­mes sa Incheon, South Korea ay walang inihayag na prediksyon ang Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) para sa magiging kampanya ng delegasyon.

Umaasa lamang si PSC chairman Richie Garcia na gagawin ng mga national athletes ang kanilang makakaya para makapag-uwi ng medalya mula sa Incheon Asiad.

“We are just asking our athletes to give it their best. Kahit ano, ibigay mo ang lahat ng makakaya mo,” wika ni Garcia kahapon sa lingguhang PSA sports forum sa Shakey’s sa Malate, Manila.

“The medals will just come. Hindi mo puwedeng sabihin na kaya mong manalo ng sampung gold, dalawang gold,” dagdag pa ng chef-de-mission ng Philippine delegation.

Nakatakda ang nasabing quadrennial event sa Setyembre 19 hanggang Oktubre 4 kung saan sasabak ang mga atleta sa 25 sa kabuuang 36 sports events na nakalatag.

Sasabak ang mga Filipino athletes sa aquatics (80), archery (8), athletics (9), baseball (15), basketball (12), bowling (12), boxing (9), canoe-kayak (1), cycling (5), equestrian (3), fencing (2), golf (7), gymnastics (1), judo (4), karate (6), rowing (5), rugby 7s (12), sailing (4), shooting (8), taekwondo (12), lawn tennis (6), soft tennis (3), triathlon (8), weightlifting (2), wrestling (7) at wushu (6).

Kabuuang 439 gold medals ang nakalatag para sa Incheon Asiad.

Nakatakdang isumite ngayong araw ni Garcia sa organizing committee sa Incheon ang entries by number.

Ang deadline para sa pagpapasa ng entries by names ay sa Agosto 15.

“In the last Asian Games in 2010, we won three gold medals. I hope we can win more this time,” sabi ni Garcia.
