Suporta ng PBA sa Gilas dedesisyunan ngayon

MANILA, Philippines - Pagbibigyan ba ng PBA board of governors ang kahilingan ng Gilas Pilipinas na mabigyan ng isang three-month training period para paghandaan ang 2014 FIBA World Cup sa Spain at ang Asian Ga­mes sa Incheon, Korea?

Ito ang malaking katanungan ukol sa pakiki­pag­pulong ni national coach Chot Reyes sa mga mi­yembro ng PBA board nga­yong hapon para ipri­sinta ang kanyang training program para sa nasabing international meet.

“I’m presenting two or three scenarios. For me, the most ideal is three months of training. That’s what we asked the last time (for the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship), but we’re given two months,” sabi ni Reyes.

“I hope that we be given three months this time as we’re preparing for two tournaments. But I have no choice. I have to live (with what they would give us),” dagdag pa nito.

Kung aaprubahan ng PBA ang kahilingan ng Gilas Pilipinas ay muli nitong ia-adjust ang iskedyul ngayong season.

“It’s going to be a dialo­gue, a discussion. Coach Chot must explain his plans and requirements,” wika naman ni PBA board chairman Mon Segismundo.

“The PBA is willing to help and support. The PBA knows it’s a national endea­vor and that the Filipino pride is at stake here. The PBA is willing to provide fullest support, but we also need to consider all the stakeholders - the fans, the PBA, the team owners,” dagdag pa nito.

Kung hindi mabibigyan ng three-month training period, sinabi ni Reyes na hindi  na niya babaguhin ang kanyang Gilas lineup.

“If it’s not three months, it’s immaterial (to make changes in the roster). The­re’s no time to put up a pool,” sabi ni Reyes.

“Kahit may mga players na mataas ang inilalaro, wala rin (Even if there are non-Gilas players playing on a high level right now, it’s no­thing). My primary concern is familiarity with the system,” dagdag pa ni Reyes.

“The most important really is the training period. Then I would ask (the PBA governors), what’s my limitations,” dagdag ng coach.

Sa bagong PBA ca­lendar, dalawa hanggang apat na linggo ang maa­aring maging panahon ng mga Gilas players para makapagsanay sa national team bago ang World Cup sa Agosto. 30.

Nauna nang binago ng PBA ang kanilang kalendaryo para mapagbigyan ang paghahanda ng national team sa nakaraang FIBA Asia Championship.

Umaasa si Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Manny V. Pangilinan na makakalusot ang Nationals sa World Cup knockout stage.
