Ex-cop dies after shooting
MANILA, Philippines - A former policeman who was shot Friday night over transport disputes succumbed to his injuries in a hospital in Quezon City Monday afternoon.
Retired Senior Police Officer 1 Jerson Leonardo, 59, died of gunshot wounds in his head and left shoulder at the Far Eastern University Hospital just before 6 p.m.
Leonardo, who was previously assigned to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Traffic Unit, was shot in Barangay Sta. Lucia at around 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Chief Inspector Rodelio Marcelo, head of the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, said tricycle driver Anthony Sunga was arrested in follow-up operations.
Sunga was allegedly among the seven men – including Marlon Sarabia, president of the West Fairview Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) – who reportedly attacked the former police officer.
Leonardo and Sarabia reportedly had a dispute over a delinquent tricycle franchise with the West Fairview TODA.
