Seniors to get aid first week of December

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Qualified senior citizens will get to enjoy Christmas in advance after Cebu City Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia announced the release of their last quarter financial assistance starting on December 7.

The mayor made the announcement the other day during the distribution of assistance to individuals in crisis situation (AICS) in Barangay Sawang Calero.

Qualified seniors will get P3,000 each as financial assistance covering for the months of October, November and December. The city government is giving P1,000 monthly financial aid to senior citizens which will be released every quarter.

Garcia said he already instructed all concerned offices at City Hall to ensure that the assistance will be released on the first week of December.

The mayor also promised that all senior citizens will get their supply of maintenance medicine from the city government beginning January. With this, seniors will no longer have the hard time to look for additional budget for their maintenance while waiting for their financial assistance from the city government to be released.

Meanwhile, at least 342 beneficiaries received P2,000 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development during the AICS distribution on Tuesday. The beneficiaries came from Barangays Lahug, Mabolo, Pahina San Nicolas, Pahina Central, Buhisan, and Punta Princesa.

Garcia reminded the beneficiaries to use the money wisely. He said seniors should prioritize their maintenance medicine. –/FPL (FREEMAN)
