DA sa PPA: Bigas sa mga container, ilabas!

MANILA, Philippines — Iginiit ng Department of Agriculture (DA) sa pamunuan ng Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) na unahin nitong mailabas sa mga daungan ang mga container van na may laman na mga imported rice.

Ang pahayag ay ginawa ni Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. nang malaman na may mga rice tra­ders ang hindi agad kinukuha ang mga naangkat na bigas at pinatatagal sa loob ng shipping yards dahil naghihintay pa ang mga itong tumaas ang presyo ng bigas sa merkado.

Una nang naiulat ng PPA na may 888 shipping vans na naglalaman ng halos 20 milyong kilograms ng bigas ang kasalukuyang nasa container yards sa Port of Manila may halos isang buwan na.

“We respectfully urge the PPA to prioritize the movement of these rice stocks to help increase supply for this essential food staple and potentially lower retail prices. The delay in releasing the imported rice has raised concerns over food security, especially as the country faces ongoing inflation pressures,” ayon kay Laurel.
