MANILA, Philippines — Inihayag ni Oriental Mindoro Governor Humerlito Dolor na natagpuan na ng Japanese remotely operated vehicle (ROV) ang lumubog na oil tanker na nagdulot ng malawakang oil spill sa naturang lalawigan.

Sa kanyang Facebook page, ipinakita ni Dolor ang footage na kuha ng Japanese ROV na nakita ang MT Princess Empress sa lalim na 400 meters sa Ba­lingawan Point sa bayan ng Naujan.

Lulan ng MT Princess Empress ang nasa 800,000 litro ng industrial fuel oil nang lumubog ito noong Pebrero 28.

Nabatid na personal na tinungo ni Dolor ang lugar sakay ng Philippine Coast Guard BRP Bagacay, kung saan nagsasagawa ng ­paghahanap ang Japanese Dynamic Positioning Vessel (DPV) Shin Nichi Maru.

Kasama ni Dolor si Commodore Geronimo Tuvilla, Jr., incident commander, at Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno ng Office of Civil Defense (OCD).

Nabatid naman kay Defense Secretary Carlito Galvez na magpapadala ng mga barko ang ­gobyerno ng Amerika sa Pilipinas upang tumulong sa paglilinis sa oil spill.

Sinabi ni Galvez na nagkausap na sila ni US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin para sa ipadadalang naval units upang mapabilis ang ­paglilinis ng karagatan.

Inirekomenda rin ni Galvez kay Austin na gamitin ang mga nakatakdang aktibidad sa Balikatan Exercises bilang aktuwal na humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) operations sa paglilinis sa oil spill.

Tinatayang nasa 2,500 ektarya ng co­ral reefs, mangroves at seaweed ang naapektuhan ng oil spill.
