'Nawawalang pera dahil sa trapik, mas malaki pa sa pork scam'

MANILA, Philippines – Bilyun-bilyon ang nawawala sa Pilipinas dahil sa matinding trapiko sa Metro Manila, ayon sa isang grupo ngayong Miyerkules.

Sinabi ni Brian Galagnara, pinuno ng grupong The Red Advocates, dalawang pag-aaral sa trapiko ng Pilipinas ang magpapatunay na malaki ang epekto nito sa ekonomiya.

Isa sa mga pag-aaral ay ginawa noong 1999 ng Japan International Cooperation Agency at Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC), habang nasundan ito noong 2011 ng University of the Philippines National Center for Transportation Studies.

“The findings of these studies are essentially the same. They peg the losses due to traffic at approximately P140 billion,” pahayag ni Galagnara.

“These are losses that should immediately be addressed because traffic is getting worse by the day due to our inaction," dagdag niya.

Sinabi ni Galagarna na sa bigat ng trapiko ay nasasayang ang gasolina, enerhiya, oras sa trabaho, pagpapasuweldo sa mga traffic aides.

Dagdag niya na mas malaki ang nawawala sa Pilipinas dahil sa bigat ng trapiko kumpara sa mga nanakaw na pondo sa pork barrel scam.

 â€œWe share the country’s concern with the rampant misuse of public funds and understand why corruption is at center stage these days,” banggit niya.

“But after seeing the success of concerned citizens and collective action in the abolition of the pork barrel, we feel it is time to mobilize efforts to address a problem that has an even greater negative economic impact than corruption: traffic,” dagdag ng pinuno ng The Red Advocates.

Sinisisi ni Galagara ang kawalang ng disiplina ng mga motorista sa kabila ng karamihan ng sasakyan.

"We know that we have too many cars and not enough roads, but what makes thing worse is our lack of discipline on the roads, a lack of respect for each other.”
