Mapua tatapusin ang Benilde para sa NCAA crown

MANILA, Philippines — Wala nang ibang nasa isip ang Mapua Universi­ty kundi ang walisin ang College of St. Benilde para tapusin ang 33 taong pagkauhaw sa korona.

Lalabanan ng Cardinals ang Blazers ngayong alas-2:30 ng hapon sa Game Two ng NCAA Season 100 men’s basket­ball championship sa Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Tinalo ng Mapua ang St. Benilde sa Game One, 84-73, tampok ang game-high 30 points ni reigning MVP Clint Escamis.

Huling nagkampeon ang Cardinals noong 1991 kung saan isinalpak ni Benny Cheng ang game-winning putback laban sa San Beda Red Lions.

“Kailangan hindi na na­min pakawalan nga­yon, dapat may fresh legs kami at makapahinga ka­mi kasi of course, hindi iyan ibibigay sa amin nang madali, marami pa kaming dadaanan sa Game Two,” ani Mapua coach Randy Alcantara sa St. Benilde.

Pipilitin ng Blazers na makabawi sa Cardinals para makahirit ng ‘winner-take-all’ Game Three.
