Laurence Oliver ng Miss Saigon nominado sa Larry

MANILA, Philippines – Naka-score ng best actor in a musical nomination sa 2015 Laurence Oli­vier Awards o kung tawagin ay Larry, ang Pinoy na si Jon Jon Briones dahil sa pagganap niya as the Engineer sa revival ng Miss Saigon sa West End London.

Isa nga si Jon Jon sa original cast ng Miss Saigon nang una itong itanghal sa London noong 1989. Nasa chorus lang si Jon Jon noon at ang gumaganap na Engineer that time ay ang stage and film actor na si Jonathan Pryce at si Lea Salonga ang gumanap na Kim.

Kapwa nanalo sina Lea at Jonathan ng best actress at best actor in a musical sa Laurence Olivier at sa Tony Awards para sa role nila sa Miss Saigon.

Ngayon at nataon pang ika-25th year ng Miss Saigon, si Jon Jon na ang gumaganap na Engineer at nakakuha pa siya ng nomination sa isa sa pinaka-prestigious theatre awards in the United Kingdom.

Makakalaban ni Jon Jon ang British actors na sina John Dagleish (Sunny Afternoon); Killian Donnelly (Memphis The Musical) and Brandon Victor Dixon (The Scottsboro Boys).

Natuwa si Lea nang makarating sa kanya ang balitang nominated for a Larry si Jon Jon at agad siyang nag-post sa kanyang social media account:

“Dreams are still coming true for you, Kuya. Congratulations on your #OlivierAward nomination!!! @misssaigonuk @jonjonbriones”

Samantala ay na-nominate din for Best New Musical ang Here Lies Love kung saan nakasama si Mark Bautista bilang si Ferdinand Marcos. Nakuha rin nito ang nominations for Best Sound at Best Theater Choreographer.

The awarding ceremony ay gaganapin sa Royal Opera House in London on April 12.
