MANILA, Philippines — Ipinahayag kahapon ni National Task Force Against CO­VID-19 chief implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. ang kanyang suporta na ibalik ang mandatory face shield policy sa gitna ng banta ng Omicron variant.

Ayon kay Galvez, magbibigay ang face shields ng karagdagang proteksyon laban sa bagong variant, na hinihinalang sanhi ng mas mataas na panganib ng reinfection base sa preliminary evidence.

“So kami po ni (Health) Sec. (Francisco) Duque at saka ng whole DOH and also some of the experts are with the possible reusing of the face shield,” pahayag ni Galvez.

Binigyang-diin din niya ang kahalagahan ng face shields, at binanggit ang karanasan ng bansa sa nakahahawang Delta variant.

“Kasi nakita namin even the WHO, ‘yung nangyari sa atin sa Delta talagang na-control natin ang transmission,” ani Galvez.

“We were able to really avoid ‘yung excessive deaths and also we were able to withstand ‘yung hospitalization. It’s because of the extra protection given by face shield,” dagdag pa niya.

Matatandaang inalis ng pamahalaan ang face shield policy noong Nobyembre 15, at ipinatutupad lamang sa mga lugar sa ilalim ng Alert Level 5.

Sa isang media briefing, sinabi ni Health Epidemiology Bureau director Dr. Alethea de Guzman na patuloy umano nilang babantayan ang sitwasyon at maglalabas ng rekomendasyon, kung kinakailangan.
