MANILA, Philippines — Wagi ng tig-dalawang gintong medalya sina tracksters Maureen Emily Schrijvers at Bernalyn Bejoy sa pagtatapos ng 2021 Ayala Philippine Athletics Championships kahapon dito sa Baguio City Athletic Bowl.
Nag-reyna sina Schrijvers (women’s 200m, 400m) at Bejoy (800m, 400m hurdles) sa kanilang mga events upang samahan sina Clinton Bautista (men’s 100m, 110m hurdles), Katherine Khay Santos (women’s long jump, 100m) at Janry Ubas (men’s long jump, heptathlon) bilang double-gold medal winners ng unang trackfest sa bansa sa gitna ng pandemya.
Matapos manalo sa 400m (58.53 seconds) kamakalawa, isinukbit naman ng La Salle stalwart na si Schrijvers kahapon ang korona sa 200m matapos magtala ng 26.03 segundo. Pareho itong swak sa national team standard ng Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) sa 400m (60 seconds) at 200m (26.50 seconds).
“I’m supper happy na nakapag-perform ako at least above average. Qualified na for Philippines but for the standard that we want for a Southeast Asian Games podium, kulang pa. Sana magtuluy-tuloy,” ani Schrijvers na wagi noong 2019 SEAG sa 4x400 women’s at 4x400 mixed relay.
Hindi rin nagpahuli si Bejoy na naglista ng 1:02.66 seconds sa women’s 400m hurdles at 2:15.99 seconds sa 800m.
