Rubio naranasan ang Filipino brand ng basketball

MANILA, Philippines - Ang pinakamala­king dahilan kung bakit gustong bisitahin ni Minnesota Timberwolves star point guard Ricky Rubio ang Pilipinas ay para ma­laman kung gaano kama­hal ng mga Pinoy ang bas­ketball.

“I have much love for the Philippines last year when they were in Spain (FIBA World Cup) and the fans of the Phi­lippines won an award for that. I want to see that kind of passion personally,” sabi ni Rubio sa press conference kahapon sa Adi­das outlet sa Bonifacio Global City sa Taguig City.

Nakasalamuha din ng 25-anyos na si Rubio, ang fifth overall pick noong 2009 draft, ang kanyang mga avid fans na binigyan niya ng autographs at nagpakuha ng litrato.

Naranasan ni Rubio ang halimbawa ng Filipino basketball nang maki­paglaro siya sa mga local streetballers sa Anda street sa Intramuros, Manila.

“The Philippines play an NBA style of game, they’re very good,” wika ni Rubio.

Sinabi ni Rubio na hin­di hadlang ang pagiging ma­liit ng mga Pinoy.

“You can see a lot of teams in the NBA going small ball now. The Gol­den State Warriors are one of them. They play fast and just keep on shoo­ting,” ani Rubio.

Isa ring football fan si Rubio at nakatakdang ma­­­kipaglaro ngayon kina Phil at James Younghusband ng Phl Azkals.
