Prioritize cleanliness, Malabon barangays told

Mark Ernest Villeza - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Malabon Mayor Jeannie Sandoval has called on the city’s 21 barangays to strengthen their environmental efforts and maintain cleanliness during Christmas and New Year celebrations.

“Our personnel will maintain cleanliness in the city, but it will be more effective if it starts within the homes and communities of every Malabueño family,” Sandoval said.

The city’s environment and natural resources office urged barangays to mobilize personnel to ensure that main roads and areas prone to illegal dumping are trash-free.

From January to September, Malabon’s street sweepers collected an average of 10,563 sacks of garbage monthly from roads and public spaces.

The city’s “estero rangers” also conducted 248 operations this year, removing 64,970 sacks of waste from waterways such as the Dampalit, Sucul and Malabon-Navotas Rivers.
