Partylist promises to focus on helping informal sector

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Angkasangga Partylist first nominee George Royeca recently visited Cebu to further strengthen their mission of creating stable, dignified jobs for Filipinos.

Royeca's visit underscores the partylist’s commitment to advocating for the welfare and rights of informal sector workers.

Angkasangga's mission is to advocate for the rights, recognition, and empowerment of the informal sector, which has long been underserved and unrecognized.

Royeca stated that by turning informal workers into entrepreneurs, or "nanopreneurs," the partylist aims to create a system where government policies and legislation acknowledge and support these individuals, who are the backbone of the economy.

Through strategic legislation, Angkasangga seeks to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for ordinary Filipinos, ensuring they can transition from the fringes of the economy into the formal sector.

Royeca highlighted that Angkas has long been a fixture in Cebu, providing safe, reliable motorcycle transportation and steady employment for thousands of local bikers, uplifting lives and fostering pride in their profession.

Since its inception, Angkas has been dedicated to ensuring fair pay, benefits, and job security for its riders, who previously faced inconsistent income and limited opportunities in the informal economy.

“Angkasangga's goal is to replicate this successful model across more sectors, offering representation that prioritizes job stability and livelihood enhancement for those in various informal industries,” said Royeca.

Through Angkasangga, they aim to push for legislation and programs that will extend similar benefits, protections, and opportunities to other informal workers nationwide.

The partylist added that it is committed to championing policies that enhance the livelihood of workers in the informal sector and aims to bridge the gap in representation, delivering lasting improvements to the lives of millions of Filipinos.

Royeca has revolutionized ride-hailing in the Philippines with over eight million downloads and 50,000 biker-partners.(CEBU NEWS)
