Australian, Vietnamese teams sasalang sa SSL
MANILA, Philippines — Dalawang dayong koponan ang hahamon sa mga pambato ng bansa 2026 Shakey’s Super League (SSL) Collegiate National Invitationals na lalarga na kaagad bukas sa Ninoy Aquino Stadium sa Maynila.
Bida ang Ho Chi Minh City Volleyball Club ng Vietnam at Southern Storm Melbourne ng Australia sa six-team field ng torneo na magpaparada ng foreign teams sa unang pagkakataon para sa misyon ng Shakey’s, tampok si Shaina Nitura ng Adamson at Alas Pilipinas bilang SSL Ambassador, na lalong mapalakas ang antas ng Philippine volleyball.
Haharang sa kanilang daan ang reigning NCAA champion Letran, dating four-peat titlist St. Benilde, Enderun Colleges at UAAP powerhouse na UST sa single-round robin eliminations tampok ang Top 4 teams na makakaabante sa semifinals.
Knockout ang semis pati ang finals na kasunod lang din ng makasaysayang Junior National Invitationals tampok ang Pacific Volleyball Academy ng Guam at Perfect Set Dream Makers ng California, USA.
“It’s a great opportunity to see the future of our Philippine volleyball through this kind of tournaments,” sabi ni Victorina Calma, manager at legal counsel ng Shakey’s league organizer Athletic Events and Sports Management Inc., (ACES) sa pamumunod ni president and CEO Dr. Ian Laurel, sa media launch kahapon sa Shakey’s Malate.
“Last week, it’s the juniors and now we’re excited for the collegiate division featuring foreign teams for the first time ever. Shakey’s is committed to support volleyball advocacyin the Philippines. We will continue the legacy of Shakey’s that has supported volleyball since 20 years ago,” dagdag naman ni Shakey’s Pizza Asia Ventures Inc., (SPAVI) marketing head Regine Asa.
