World-class Olympic coaches mamumuno sa Philippine archery program

CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela — Umagaw ng eksena si Juliana Vernice Garcia sa pagsisimula ng 2026 WAP?PSC Philippine National Archery Championship Qualifier Leg 1 dito sa Benjamin Dy Sports Complex.

Nasaksihan mismo ni Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Patrick Gregorio ang husay ng 17-anyos na recurve specialist mula sa Pasig City sa hanay ng 450 archers.

“Sometimes I ask myself Sunday is a time to rest. But when you meet 450 young archers from all over the Philippines, full of aspirations and dreams, you immediately know sulit ang pagod ko,” ani Gregorio kay Garcia na nangibabaw sa Cauayan kickoff qualifier na pinamahalaan ni Mayor JC Dy.

Sa pamumuno ni World Archery Philippines president Jonathan “Bing” Reaport, kumuha ang national team ng dalawang Olympic coaches mula sa South Korea na may world?class credentials.

Ito ay sina Ryu Su Jeng at Hong Sun Chil na ang programa ay nagpakita na ng magandang resulta.

Anim na gold medals ang nakataya sa archery event sa 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Ito ay sa men’s at women’s individual, men’s at women’s team, mixed team recurve at sa ipinakikilalang mixed team compound event.

Isa sa mga premyadong Olympic coaches ng Korea, iginiya ni Ryu ang kanyang bansa sa limang gold medals — dalawa sa Rio 2016 at tatlo sa Tokyo 2021 — at namamahala ngayon sa Philippine archery program.

Si Hong, isang World Cup champion mula rin sa South Korea, ang tumulong sa mga Iranian at Chinese squads sa international success.

Samantala, inihayag ni Gregorio ang plano ng PSC na magtayo ng isang Regional Training Center para sa archery at ball sports sa Benjamin Dy Sports Complex bukod sa rowing center sa Cagayan River.

“Mabuhay ang World Archery Philippines and its president Bing Reaport. Take care of our Korean Olympic coaches. They will unlock the way to the podium for the hearts of all these young athletes,” ani Gregorio.
