Pinoy skiers ready na sa Winter Olympics

BORMIO, Italy – Handang-handa na sina Francis Ceccarelli at Tallulah Proulx, mga batang skiers na nakabase sa Italy at Utah ngunit may dugong Pinoy, na katawanin ang Pilipinas sa Winter Olympics dito.

Sasalang ang 22-anyos na si Ceccarelli, ipinanganak sa Quezon City at inampon ng mag-asawang Italians nang siya ay 8-anyos pa lamang, saAlpine skiing event. Kasali rin si Ceccarelli sa Slalom event sa snow-covered Stelvio Ski Centre.

Siya ang pang-pitong FIlipino skier sapul noong 1972 kung saan unang lumahok ang Pilipinas sa Winter Olympics sa Sapporo, Japan.

Ito naman ang Winter Olympics debut ng 17-anyos na si Proulx at ang

kauna-unahang Pinay na sasalang sa event.

Siya ang ikalawang pinakabatang lahok ng bansa sa Games matapos si Alpine skier Asa Miller na sumabak noong 2018 edition sa South Korea.

Lalaban si Proulx sa Giant Slalom at Slalom events sa Cortina na tatlong oras ang layo mula sa Bormio.

Kumpiyansa sina Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham

Tolentino at Philippine Sports Commission chairman Patrick Gregorio sa tsansa nina Ceccarelli at Proulx. “We’ve won gold medals in the Summer Olympics. This is another challenge for us,” ani Tolentino.

“We hail our two athletes for making it to this year’s Winter Olympics and compete in Alpine skiing, a sport that most Filipinos only see on TV. Our tropical country being represented by these young athletes in Italy is a big achievement for us,” wika naman ni Gregorio.
