Aranas, Biado talo kay Corteza

MANILA, Philippines —  Muling nakitaan ng tikas si Lee Vann Corteza ma­tapos kaldagin si World Cup of Pool co-champion James Aranas, 9-5, sa winner’s side ng Efren “Ba­ta” Reyes Yalin 10-Ball Championships sa Pacman’s Cue Club sa Shaw Boulevard sa Mandaluyong City.

Swak sa round-of-32 ang six-time Southeast Asian Games gold meda­list na si Corteza at nag-aabang ng makakalaban ngayong araw sa event na may premyong P1 milyon para sa magkakampeon.

Bago nakaharap ng 46-anyos na si Corteza si Aranas ay kinalos muna nito sina Lauro Bongay, 9-2, at reigning World 9-ball champion Carlo Biado.

“Mahirap na laban, ma­buti nanalo ako kina Lauro, Carlo at Jamesa,” sabi ni Cor­teza.

Ang ibang rumampa sa round-of-32 sa event na suportado ni Senator Manny Pacquiao at inorganisa ni snooker champion Marlon Manalo ay sina Jesson Ma­rabi, Baseth Mocaibat at Raymond Faraon.

Tinalo ni Marabi sina Marc Andraine Santos (9-7), Jomar Aribas (9-5) at Mario Tolentino (9-6); kinaldag ni Mocaibat sina Aivhan Maluto (9-8), Ho­race Angor (9-1), Zyrus Obello (9-7) at Val Jason Porras (9-6), habang naka-ungos si Faraon kina Jun Bansil (9-4), Romeo Silvano (9-7) at Patrick Gonzales (9-6).

Pasok din sa knockout stage sina Roland Garcia, Jerson Cumayas, Ronato Alcano at Arnel Bautista.
