Team Philippines ready na sa Tokyo Olympics

MANILA, Philippines — Pangungunahan ni Team Philippines Chef de Mission Mariano Araneta ang first batch ng mga opisyales na magtutungo sa Tokyo, Japan para sa Olympic Games.

Bibiyahe ang grupo ni Araneta ng football fe­deration sa Hulyo 15 at didiretso sa Conrad Hotel na magiging official home ng delegasyon.

Magkakahiwalay namang magtutungo sa Tokyo ang mga Olympic qualifiers, ayon kay Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president at Tagaytay City Rep. Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino.

“In three weeks, the urn in Tokyo will be burning and Team Philippines — from the athletes and coaches down to the secretariat are ready for action,” ani Tolentino.

Kasalukuyang may 17 qualifiers ang bansa para sa Tokyo Olympics na babanderahan nina 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz sa weightlifting at 2021 US Women’s Open champion Yuka Saso sa golf.

Ang iba pa ay sina gol­fers Juvic Pagunsan at Bianca Pagdanganan, weightlifter Elreen Ann Ando, skateboarder Margielyn Didal, pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena, gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo, shooter Jayson Valdez, Fil-Am trackster Kristina Knott, taekwondo jin Kurt Barbosa, rower Cris Nievarez, Fil-Japanese judoka Kiyomi Watanabe at boxers Eumir Felix Marcial, Irish Magno, Nesthy Petecio at Carlo Paalam.

Nagbayad na ang Phi­lippine Sports Commission (PSC) ng P11 milyon para sa accommodation expense ng Team Philippines sa Conrad Hotel mula sa kabuuang P48 milyon para sa partisipasyon ng tropa sa Tokyo Olympics.

Naglaan ang PSC, pina­mumunuan ni chairman William ‘Butch’ Ra­mirez, ng pondong P200 milyon para sa Olympic campaign ng bansa.

“In terms of administrative and secretariat matters, we’re all settled,” ani Tolentino.
