MANILA, Philippines — Dalawa lamang kina national swimmers Jasmine Alkhaldi, James Deiparine, Luke Gebbie at Remedy Rule ang mabibigyan ng universality slot para makalahok sa Olympic Games sa Tokyo, Japan.

Ang universality slot ay ibinibigay sa mga bansang walang atletang nakapasa sa Olympic qualifying standard sa men’s at women’s category.

Si Fil-American trackster Kristina Knott, kumuha ng dalawang gold medal noong 2019 Southeast Asian Games, ay nabigyan ng universality place para makalahok sa women’s 200-meter dash ng Tokyo Olympics.

Nakatakda ang Tokyo Olympics sa Hulyo 23 hanggang Agosto 8.

Kung sakali ay makakalahok ang 28-anyos na si Alkhaldi sa kanyang ikatlong Olympics matapos makasali noong 2012 at 2016 editions.

Noong 2019 SEA Games ay lumangoy si Alkhaldi ng dalawang silver at anim na bronze medals.

Inangkin naman ni Deiparine ang gold medal sa men’s 100-meter breaststroke habang nagdagdag si Rule ng tatlong silver at dalawang bronze at may isang silver at isang bronze si Gebbie.

Umakyat sa 17 ang mga Olympic qualifiers ng bansa matapos dumagdag sina 2021 US Women’s Open champion Yuka Saso at Bianca Pagdanganan.

Ang iba pa ay sina weightlifters Hidilyn Diaz, Elreen Ann Ando, skateboarder Margielyn Didal, golfer Juvic Pagunsan, pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena, gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo, shooter Jayson Valdez, taekwondo jin Kurt Barbosa, rower Cris Nievarez, Fil-Japanese judoka Kiyomi Watanabe at boxers Eumir Felix Marcial, Irish Magno, Nesthy Petecio at Carlo Paalam.
