MANILA, Philippines — Dumating na ang anim na national surfers sa El Sunzai, El Salvador.at kaagad sinimulan ang kanilang pag-eensayo bilang preparasyon sa lalahukang 2021 ISA World Surfing Games.

Target nina John Mark Tokong, Rogelio Esquievel Jr., Edito Alcala Jr., Nilbie Blancada, Daisy Valdez at Vea Estrellado na makasikwat ng tiket para sa 2021 Olympic Games sa Tokyo, Japan.

Nakatakda ang nasabing Olympic qualifying tournament sa Mayo 29 hanggang Hunyo 6.

Nagbigay ang Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) ng pondong P6.4 milyon para sa kampanya ng mga national surfers.

“Rest assured, Pilipinas Surfing is doing its best to train and compete internationally as well as focusing on the grassroots development,” sabi ni United Philippine Surfing Association president Dr. Raul Canlas kay PSC chairman William “Butch” Ramirez.

Isang Olympic slot lamang ang nakalaan per gender sa naturang Olympic qualifier.

Lalahok sina Tokong, Esquievel at Alcala sa men’s open shortboard habang sasabak sina Blancada, Valdez at Estrellado sa women’s open shortboard.

Si Blancada ang umang­kin sa gold medal noong 2019 Southeast Asian Games at nagdagdag sina Tokong at Valdez ng tig-isang bronze.
