New Face of the Year taekwondo tilt kasado na

MANILA, Philippines – Humigit-kumulang sa 1,500 atleta ang lalahok sa 2016 Meralco/MVP Sports Foundation National New Face of the Year taekwondo championships sa May 21-22 sa Cuneta Astrodome sa Pasay City.

Sinabi ni Organizing Committee Chair Sung Chon Hong na ang event ay bahagi ng programa ng Philippine Taekwondo Association para palakasin ang sport at bilang suporta sa grassroots sports program ng gobyerno.

“This competition gives taekwondo newcomers the chance to show their techniques and styles as they bid to become the country’s future stars,” wika ni Hong, ang CEO (Chief Executive Officer) ng PTA.

Mag-aagawan ang mga jins mula sa iba’t ibang PTA chapters at branches sa Metro Manila at probinsya kasama pa ang mga military commands para sa karangalan sa senior men and women, junior men and women, Cadet (men and women) at grade school (boys and girls).

Ang taekwondo ay ikinukunsidera ngayong pinakapopular na martial art sports sa bansa dahil sa tagumpay ng mga national athletes sa ilang international events.

Kamakailan ay gumawa ng ingay sina Kirstie Elaine Alora at Pauline Lopez sa Asian qualifying tournament para sa 2016 Rio Olympics at sa Asian Championships noong nakaraang buwan sa Marriott Convention Center sa Pasay City.

Nakamit ni Alora ang tiket para sa 2016 Rio Olympic Games at nanalo naman si Lopez ng gold medal sa 22nd Asian Championships.

Ang naturang torneo ay suportado ng  SMART Communications Inc., Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, PLDT at Milo.
