Pinoy jins tatarget ng tiket sa Olympics

MANILA, Philippines – Hangad ng Philippine Sports Commission na ma­kapaglahok ng mas ma­raming atleta sa 2016 Olympic Games sa Rio de Janerio, Brazil sa Agosto.

Inaprubahan ng PSC ang P4 million budget para sa pagdaraos ng Philippine Taekwondo Association sa Asian Taekwondo Olympic Qualifier sa Abril 19-20.

“It’s approved,” wika ni PSC chairman Richie Garcia sa event na maaa­ring gawin sa Marriot Hotel o sa Cuneta Astrodome sa Pasay City.

Kabuuang 400 partisi­pante ang inaasahang lalahok sa nasabing two-day meet kung saan nakataya ang 16 male at female Olympic slots.

“It will be tough but at least it will help our athletes knowing that they’re com­pe­ting on our home soil,” wi­ka ni Garcia.

Tanging si Fil-Am hurd­ler Eric Cray ang tiyak nang makakalahok sa Olympics matapos makuha ang Olympic qualifying standard sa nilahukang torneo sa US noong nakaraang taon.

Tatlo hanggang apat na atleta ang inaasahan naman ni PTA chief executive officer Sung Chon Hong na kanilang maipapadala sa Rio Olympics.

“All our athletes are very qualified but then it also depends on the luck of draw,” sabi ni Hong. “Hopefully, we could qualify three or four.”

Samantala, idaraos ng PTA ang kanilang National Championship ngayong linggo sa Cuneta Astrodome kung saan paparada sina Francis Aaron Agojo, Samuel Thomas Morrison, Ronna Ilao, Pauline Lo­pez at Benjamin Keith Sembrano sa kyorugi o free sparring.
