Baguio pipilitin na maging slam-dunk king uli

PUERTO PRINCESA, Philippines -- Habang kumakain ng tanghalian kahapon ay ipinaramdam ni Cyrus Baguio ang kanyang hangarin na muling magkampeon sa slam-dunk contest na kanyang napanalunan noong 2004.

Ito ang lalo pang nagdulot ng pananabik sa mga fans para sa nasabing classic aerial showdown sa hanay ng limang high-flyers at power-slammers sa skills competitions ng PBA All-Star Friday sa Puerto Princesa Coliseum ngayong hapon.

“He was overheard saying he wants to join the contest again. Surely, we’ll entertain his desire. We’ll inform commissioner Chito Salud,” sabi ni PBA operations chief Rickie Santos.

Kung sakali ay haha­munin ni Baguio sina reigning co-champs Justin Melton at Rey Guevarra at sina Japeth Aguilar, JC Intal at Matt Ganuelas-Rosser sa slam-dunk competition.

Hindi naman makakasali ang mga dating kampeong sina Gabe Norwood at Chris Ellis bukod pa kay Calvin Abueva.

Binigla ni Baguio ang PBA noong 2004 bilang isang Red Bull sophomore matapos pagharian ang slam-dunk contest.

Sakaling muling mag­hari, ang dating UST Tiger ang magiging pang-limang PBA player na nanalo ng dalawang beses o higit pa matapos sina multiple winners KG Canaleta (5), Kelly Williams (2), Vergel Meneses (2) at Don Ca­maso (2).

Ngunit hindi ito magi­ging madali dahil magpapakita rin ng kanilang mga ta­lento sina Melton, Guevarra, Agui­lar, Intal at Rosser.

Sa All-Star Friday na magsisimula sa alas-4 ay itatampok din ang three-point shootout at ang skills challenge kasunod ang Rookies vs Sophomores game sa alas-7 ng gabi.
