NBA player lumipat sa kickboxing

BELGRADE, Serbia  -- Mula sa basketball ay lilipat si da­ting Serbian center Darko Milicic sa kickboxing.

Pumirma ang 29-anyos na si Milicic, hindi inalok ng kontrata sa NBA ng halos dalawang taon, sa World Kickboxing Association para maging isang promoter at competitor.

Unang naglaro ang seven-foot at 250-pounder na si Milicic, ang No. 2 overall pick ng Detroit noong 2003 ma­tapos si No. 1 selection LeBron James, sa Pistons kung saan siya nakatikim ng NBA title noong 2004.

Naglaro rin siya para sa mga koponan ng Orlando, Memphis, New York, Minnesota at Boston.

Sinabi ni Milicic na nagkaroon siya ng interes sa kick­boxing dahil sa isang humanitarian campaign na ku­makalap ng tulong kung saan isang kickboxing world title belt ang ibinebenta.

“When I got home, I told myself: ‘why buy it if you can win it’?. I won’t go deep into this (kickboxing) if I cannot be devoted to it 100 percent,” sabi ni Milici. “We will see what happens.”

Noong 2003 Draft ay hindi pinansin ng Detroit sina Car­melo Anthony, Chris Bosh at Dwayne Wade para ku­nin si Milicic bilang second overall pick.
