Castro kabilang sa All Star Five

MANILA, Philippines - Sa pagtatapos ng 27th FIBA-Asia Men’s Championships noong Linggo ay nakasama si Jayson Castro ng Gilas Pilipinas sa All Star Five ng torneo.

Bagamat nabigong makamit ang gold medal ng torneo matapos matalo sa two-time champions Iran, 71-85, sinabi ng 5-foot-11 na si Castro, ginagamit ang apelyido ng kanyang amang si Ronald William sa mga international tournaments, na masaya pa rin sila at nasikwat ng Pilipinas ang isa sa tatlong tiket para sa 2014 FIBA World Championships sa Madrid, Spain.

“We’re happy pa rin kasi second place kami.We got this far. Iyong goal namin na-achieved pa rin namin,” wika ni Castro.

Ilan sa mga foreign coaches na pinahanga ng dating kamador ng Philippine Christian University ay ang mentor ng China at Chinese-Taipei.

“That boy is very strong and very brave,” sambit ni Greek coach Panagiotis Giannakis kay Castro.

Nakuha ni William ang point-guard position sa ‘Mythical Five’ kasama sina Kim Mingoo ng South Korea, Lin Chih-chieh ng Chinese-Taipei, Oshin Sahakian at Hamed Hadadi ng Iran.

Ang 7’2 na si Hadadi ang kinilalang Most Valuable Player ng torneo.
