Ateneo kinuha ang ikalawang panalo FEU malinis pa rin

MANILA, Philippines - Patuloy pa rin ang dominasyon ng Tamaraws sa first round ng 76th UAAP men’s basketball tournament.

Umiskor si Terrence Romeo ng 19 points, habang kumolekta si RR Garcia ng 17 markers, 4 rebounds at 6 assists para igiya ang Far Eastern University sa 77-67 panalo kontra sa University of Sto. Tomas kahapon sa MOA Arena sa Pasay City.

Mula sa 62-56 abante sa third period, pinalaki ng Tamaraws ang kanilang ka­lamangan sa 74-61 sa 4:34 ng fourth quarter mula sa pagbibida nina Romeo, Garcia at Mike Tolomia.

Huling nakalapit ang Ti­gers sa 65-54 agwat buhat kina Kevin Ferrer at Clark Bautista sa 2:15 ng laro.

Patuloy na hinawakan ng FEU ang liderato mula sa kanilang malinis na 6-0 ba­raha kasunod ang UST (3-2), Adamson University (3-2), De La Salle University (2-3), National University (3-3), University of the East (3-3), five-time champions Ateneo De Manila University (2-4) at University of the Philippines (0-5).

“6-0 is the same as 1-0. It’s one thing I have learned as a coach,” ani rookie coach Nash Racela. “6-0 doesn’t guarantee anything. Those are just numbers.”

Sa unang laro, umiskor si Kiefer Ravena ng season-high 15 points para bande­rahan ang 72-64 panalo ng Blue Eagles laban sa Fighting Maroons.

Umiskor naman si Sam Marata ng 22 points para sa UP.

“That team is rea­lly very dan­gerous,” sabi ni Ate­neo rookie coach Bo Pe­rasol sa koponan ng UP.

Isang 16-4 atake ang ini­lunsad ng Blue Eagles pa­ra iposte ang isang 11-point lead, 43-32, sa third period patungo sa pag­­tutumpok ng malaking 19-point advantage, 57-38, mula sa layup ni Vince Tolentino bago ito napababa ng Fighting Maroons sa 62-70 sa dulo ng fourth quarter.
