Medina nadiskaril sa asam na gold sa London Paralympics

MANILA, Philippines – Nabigo si Filipina table ten­nis bet Josephine Medina na makalapit sa wo­men’s singles Class 8 gold medal sa 2012 London Paralympic Games ngunit may tsansa pa rin siyang makuha ang bronze medal.

Natalo si Medina, ang silver medalist sa 2010 Guangzhou Asian Para­games, kay top seed Thu Kamkasomphou ng France, 3-11, 3-11, 8-11, sa semifinal round.

Nakatakdang labanan ng 42-anyos na Pinay si Josefin Abrahamsson ng Sweden para sa bronze medal sa ExCeL - North Arena 1.

“It was a good fight. You could see that the opponent had the advantage over Jojo (Medina) in height and experience. But Jojo fought bravely, did all the tactics possible, but the gold was not meant to be,” sabi ni Philippine Sports Association for the Differently-Abled secretary general Butch Weber.

Hangad ni Medina na makuha ang unang me­dalya ng bansa sa Paralympics sa loob ng 12 taon.

Napatalsik naman sa kompetisyon ang dalawang Filipino powerlifters.

Pumang-anim si Achel­le Guion sa women’s -44 kgs mula sa kanyang binuhat na 70 kgs, habang na-foul naman si Agustin Kitan sa kanyang tatlong buhat sa men’s -52 kgs.

Sa athletics, nagtala si Roger Tapia ng 23.74 segundo sa men’s 200m T46 at pumangatlo sa Heat 2 at nabigong makapasok sa susunod na round.

Naglista naman si Isidro Vildosola ng 4:30.32 sa Heat 1 sa men’s 1,500m T46 at tumapos bilang pang 15 sa 17 lahok.

Ang iba pang sasabak sa aksyon ay sina Sydney Paralympics bronze medalist Adeline Ancheta sa powerlifting women’s +82.50 kg; Andy Avellana sa Men’s High Jump - F42; Marites Burce sa Women’s Javelin Throw - F54/55/56, at Bea Roble sa swimming Women’s 50m Freestyle -S6 at Women’s 100m Freestyle -S6.
