“I think we are going to be at 122 pounds for a while,” wika ni Robert Garcia, ang Mexican trainer ni Donaire. "Nonito feels very comfortable. His weight is right on target. He’s got no weight problem. So I think 122; we are going to be there for a few fights.”
Nagkampeon ang tubong Talibon, Bohol sa flyweight category ng International Boxing Federation (IBF) at International Boxing Organization (IBO) at sa World Boxing Council (WBC) at World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight class.
Haharapin ni Donaire si Wilfredo Vazquez, Jr. para sa bakanteng World Boxing (WBO) super bantamweight title sa Pebrero 4 sa Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas.
Ayon kay Garcia, hindi magkukumpiyansa si Donaire laban sa 27-anyos na si Vazquez, isinuko ang suot na WBO super bantamweight title kay Mexican Jorge Arce via 12th-round TKO noong Mayo 7, 2011.
Huli namang nakatikim ng pagkatalo si Donaire noong Marso 10, 2001 nang mabigo kay Rosendo Sanchez via unanimous decision sa isang non-title, five-round bout sa Vallejo, California, USA.
Nagdadala si Donaire ng 27-1-0 win-loss-draw ring record kasama ang 18 KOs slate, samantalang may 21-1-1 (18 KOs) card si Vazquez.
