Bagitong Kenyan runners nagpasiklab sa 3rd QCIM

MANILA, Philippines - Dalawang Kenyan ang nagdomina sa men’s at women’s divisions ng 3rd Quezon City International Marathon kahapon na nagsimula at nagtapos sa Quezon City hall.

Nagtala si Cosmers Kembei ng bilis na 2:29:44 sa men’s 42.195-kilometer race para talunin ang kababayang si Andrew Melly (2:29.48) at angkinin ang premyong P75,000 sa karerang inihahandog ng Quezon City at SM Development Corp. (SMDC).

Nanguna naman si Pamela Chipkoge sa women’s class nang magposte ng tiyempong 2:47.45 kasunod ang kababa­yang si Genet Adeke Agnew (3:03.42) at local bet Luisa Raterta (3:11.00).

Si Raterta, nagtapos bilang pang apat sa nakaraang Milo national marathon fi­nals noong 2009, ay nakatanggap ng P30,000 bilang top Filipina performer sa women’s marathon at dagdag na insentibo para sa pagpasok sa Top 3, ayon kay Runnex chairman Atty. Rudy Fernandez. 

Sina QC Mayor Herbert Bautista, Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte at Councilor Vincent Belmonte ang nagpasinaya sa pagtakbo ng halos 10,000 runners sa event na su­portado ng Hyundai AsiaResources, Maxima Machineries, BPI, Accel Meralco, Mizuno, SSS, AGC Flat Glass Phils, Manila North Tollways Corp., Castrol, Globe, Gatorade, Maynilad, Manila Water at Salonpas.

Tumapos naman si Army Corporal Gerard Sabal bilang seventh overall sa kanyang oras na 2:46.44 at hinirang na Filipino topnotcher sa men’s division para sa kanyang premyong P30,000.
