2 hanggang 3 gold sa Pinoy chessers

MANILA, Philippines - Dalawa hanggang tatlong gintong medalya ang puntirya ng National Chess of the Philippines (NCFP) na maisulong sa nalalapit na 26th Southeast Asian Games sa Indonesia sa Nobyembre 11-22.

Ang men’s team ay binubuo nina Super Grand Master Wesley So, GMs Joey Antonio, Oliver Barbosa, John Paul Gomez, Darwin Laylo at Mark Paragua.

Sina Jedara Docena, WFM Rulp Ylem Jose, Cherry Ann Mejia, at sina WIMs Beverly Mendoza at Catherine Pereña ang kabilang sa women’s squad.

“They are all in good health at sa tingin ko they are also looking forward sa magandang laban sa Southeast Asian Games,” ani NCFP executive director GM Jayson Gonzales.

Noong 2003 ay sumulong ang mga chess pla­yers ng kabuuang 3 golds at 3 bronzes sa Vietnam SEA Games at may 4 silvers at 2 bronzes naman sa Manila SEA Games no­ong 2005.

Hindi naisama ang chess sa calendar of events sa 2007 at 2009 edition ng biennial event sa Thailand at Laos, ayon sa pagkakasunod.

Bago magtungo sa Indonesia sa Nobyembre 8, lalahok muna ang national team sa 2011 National Inter-cities and Municipalities Chess Team Championship sa Nob. 4-7 sa Tanauan City, Batangas.
