Azkals talo sa Bahrain U-23 Olympic team
MANILA, Philippines - Natalo ang Philippine Azkals sa Under-23 Olympic team ng Bahrain, 1-2, sa kanilang unang tune-up game sa Bahrain National Stadium kahapon.
Tanging si Emelio ‘Chieffy’ Caligdong ang umiskor ng goal para sa Azkals, pinaghahandaan ang kanilang Kuwait para sa second round ng 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, sa first half.
"Operating on the left flank, Caligdong unleashed a rocket from nearly 30 yards out that flew into the top-left corner of goal. Bahraini goalkeeper Eyad Nasser Salem had no chance of stopping the well-hit shot, and the Filipino fans erupted in celebration," ulat ng Gulf Daily News.
Sa kabila ng kabiguan, pinuri pa rin ni German head coach Michael Weiss ang Azkals.
"We were missing a couple of players here and there, but big credit to our guys who overcame their fatigue and the heat tonight," wika ni Weiss.
Nakatakda ang first leg ng two-leg series ng Azkals at Kuwait sa Hulyo 24 sa Kuwait, habang ang second leg ay idaraos sa Hulyo 28 sa Rizal Memorial Football Stadium sa Maynila.
