Donaire tatanggalan ng korona ng WBC
MANILA, Philippines - Noong Pebrero 19 pa huling lumaban si Nonito ‘The Filipino Flash’ Donaire, Jr. kung kung saan inagawan niya ng WBC bantamweight crown ang dating kampeong si Fernando Montiel ng Mexico via second-round KO sa Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ayon sa WBC, dapat nang magdepensa ng kanyang bantamweight title ang 28-anyos na si Donaire.
At kung hindi ito gagawin ng tubong Talibon, Bohol ay mapipilitan silang alisan ito ng korona.
“Our rules and regulations obligate all champions to make a title defense every four months, as six months without doing so represent the title vacant,” sabi ng Mexico-based sanctioning body sa isang statement.
“Considering the aforementioned facts, Nonito Donaire is being notified in time that he must comply with his obligations as a champion, and so far, we haven’t received a reply from the Philippine fighter.”
Ang Filipino-American fighter ay nasa gitna ng contractual dispute sa pagitan ng kanyang promoter na Top Rank Inc. ni Bob Arum at ng Golden Boy Promotions ni Oscar Dela Hoya.
Nagdesisyon si US arbitrator Daniel Weinstein na ang Top Rank at hindi ang Golden Boy ang may karapatan kay Donaire.
