SEAG-bound athletes pinaghahanda ng maaga ni Peping

MANILA, Philippines - Hanggat makakapaghanda ng mas maaga ang Philippine delegation para sa 26th Southeast Asian Games sa Palembang, Indonesia ay mas maganda.

Ito ang sinabi ni Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco, Jr. sa mga national athletes na ilalahok ng bansa sa naturang biennial event na nakatakda sa Nobyembre 11.

“As soon as possible dapat mag-training na sila,” wika ni Cojuangco. “Malamang iku-quarters natin ‘yung iba possibly in ULTRA, some possibly in Baguio, and in other places where we can make sure that these athletes will train properly and we can watch them closely.”

Ngunit hanggang sa kasalukuyan ay wala pa ring nabubuong delegasyon para sa 2011 SEA Games ang POC at ang Phi­lippine Sports Commission (PSC).

Matapos maging overall champion sa SEA Games sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon noong 2005 ay nahulog na sa overall medal tally ang bansa sa 2007 at 2009 SEA Games sa Laos.

Sa 2007 SEA Games sa Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, tumapos ang de­legasyon bilang pang anim sa nahakot na 41 gold, 91 silver at 96 bronze medals at naging pang lima naman sa 2009 Laos SEA Games sa nakolektang 38 gold, 35 silver at 51 bronze medals.

Samantala, tiniyak naman ni Cojuang­co na magkakaroon ng kinatawan ang Philippine sports sa pagdiriwang ng 25th anniversary ng EDSA Revolution sa Pebrero 25.

“Definitely, we will have a delegation that will be going to the celebration on February 25 representing sports that’s why hindi ako makakapunta sa Indonesia for the SEA Games Federation Council meeting,” wika ni Cojuangco, nakatatandang kapatid ni dating Pangulong Corazon C. Aquino at tiyuhin ni President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
