Pacquiao guest of honor sa PSA Awards Night

MANILA, Philippines - Muling pakikinangin ni boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao ang Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Annual Awards Night sa kanyang pagdalo sa event na inihahandog ng Coca-Cola sa Marso 5 sa Manila Hotel.

Ngunit naiiba ito sa mga nakaraang pagpunta ng honorable Congressman mula sa Sarangani at ikinukunsiderang greatest fighters sa kasaysayan ng prize fighting.

Si Pacquiao ang tata­­yong main speaker at guest of honor ng pinakamatan­dang media organization para sa 2010 PSA Awards Night.

Ito ang unang pagka­kataon sa 62-year history ng PSA na ang isang aktibong Filipino athlete ang magsisilbing guest of honor at speaker sa nasabing taunang awards night.

Ang 32-anyos na si Pac­quiao, ang tanging bok­singerong naghari sa walong magkakaibang weight divisions, ay nailuklok na sa PSA Hall of Fame matapos tanghaling Athlete of the Year ng limang beses noona 2002 hanggang 2008.

Noong nakaraang taon ay kinilala siya bilang Athlete of the Decade ng naturang grupo ng mga editors at sportswriters mula sa iba’t ibang national broadsheets at tabloids.

Ang special guest appearance ng world’s top pound-for-pound fighter sa event na inihahandog ng San Miguel Corporation, Philippine Amusements and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), Harbour Centre, ICTSI, Samsung, Accel, Nihao Mineral Resources International Inc. at Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) ay matapos ang kanyang one-on-one meeting kay U.S. President Barack Obama sa White House.

Makakasama ni Pacquiao sa awards ceremony ang tatlong Asian Games gold medal winners na sina Rey Saludar, Biboy Ri­vera at Dennis Orcollo at billiards Hall of Famer Francisco `Django’ Bustamante na mga tinanghal na 2010 Athletes of the Year.

Ang highly-popular na Philippine men’s football team ang tatanggap ng PSA Presidential Achievement Award, habang si Azkals team manager Dan Palami ang bibigyan ng Executive of the Year.

Ang mga silver meda-lists sa nakaraang Asiad at ang world champion men’s poomsae team ang mangu­nguna sa 14 persona­lities para sa major award, ang Amateur Boxing Associa­tion of the Philippines (ABAP) ang tinanghal na National Sports Association of the Year, sina billiards icon Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes at dating FIDE president Flo­rencio Campomanes ang iluluklok sa Hall of Fame, habang sina international ring referee Carlos Padilla at coaching great Virgilio ‘Baby’ Dalupan ang tatanggap ng Lifetime Achievement Award.
