Marquez ikakasa na lang kay Morales ng GBP kung...
MANILA, Philippines – Kung hindi maitatakda ang ‘trilogy’ nina Manny Pacquiao at Juan Manuel Marquez, itatapat na lamang ng Golden Boy Promotions ang huli kay Mexican boxing legend Erik Morales.
Ito ang inihayag kahapon ni GBP Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard Schaefer hinggil sa posibleng pagtanggi ni Pacquiao na muling makaharap si Marquez sa ikatlong pagkakataon.
Ayon kay Schaefer, sa Abril 16, 2010 nila itatakda ang naturang salpukan nina Marquez at Morales para hindi makasabay ang pinaplantsang laban ni Pacquiao sa Mayo 7 sa MGM Grand sa Las Vegas, Nevada.
“If Marquez doesn’t get the fight with Pacquiao, we would consider doing the fight with Morales on April 16 in Las Vegas, although Mexico is interested as well,” ani Schaefer sa panayam ng ESPN. “(Mexican network)Televisa talked to us about doing it at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City as part of a big, daylong event.”
Matapos matalo kay Morales, dalawang sunod na beses namang nagwagi si Pacquiao sa tinaguriang “El Terrible”.
Kasalukuyang dala ng 31-anyos na si Pacquiao, magdiriwang ng kanyang pang 32 kaarawan ngayon, ang 53-3-2 win-loss-draw ring record kasama ang 38 KOs.
Maliban kay Marquez (51-5-1, 37 KOs), ang iba pang nasa listahan ni Bob Arum ng Top Rank Promotions para sa susunod na laban ni Pacquiao sa Mayo 7 ay sina Sugar Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (41-0-0, 25 KOs) at Andre Berto (26-0-0, 20 KOs).
Nauna nang sinabi ni Arum na hindi niya kayang ibigay sa 37-anyos na si Marquez ang hinihingi nitong $3.2 milyon para sa kanilang ‘trilogy’ ni Pacquiao.
Ngunit ang naturang presyo ni Marquez ay itinanggi ni Schaefer.
“That’s not correct,” ani Schaefer. “But this deal would be a buyout, so whatever Marquez’s side gets has to include Golden Boy. So you can’t compare it with what Marquez got paid against Mayweather because we have to get paid too. For the Mayweather fight, we were the promoter. This fight would be Top Rank, so they asked us for a number to buy us out. Hey, if they want to do a percentage deal I’m willing to do that and the guarantee would be much lower.”
