Marquez nanalo, Pacquiao muling hinamon

MANILA, Philippines - Matapos maidepensa ang kanyang dalawang world lightweight titles laban kay Australian challenger Michael Katsisdis, muling hinamon ni Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez si Filipino world eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao.  

“We know Pacquiao is avoiding us,” sabi kahapon ni Marquez. “A third fight is what the public wants.”

Tinalo ni Marquez si Kat­sidis via ninth-round TKO para mapanatiling ha­wak ang kanyang World Boxing Association(WBA) at World Boxing Organiza­tion (WBO) lightweight crown sa MGM Grand sa Las Vegas, Nevada.

Nakabawi ang 37-an­yos na si Marquez mula sa isang third-round knockdown galing sa isang short left hook ni Katsidis bago bugbugin ang huli sa round nine kung saan inihinto na ni referee Kenny Bayless ang laban.

Itinaas ni Marquez ang kanyang win-loss-draw ring record sa 52-5-1 kasama ang 38 KOs kumpara sa 27-3 (22 KOs) slate ni Katsidis. Hangad ni Marquez na tapusin ang kanilang si­galot ni Pacquiao sa pamamagitan ng isang ‘trilogy’ sa Mayo ng 2011.

Isang draw ang itinakas ni Marquez sa kanilang unang laban ng 31-anyos na si Pacquiao noong Ma­yo ng 2004 sa kabila ng tatlong beses na pagbagsak sa first round. Naagaw naman ni Pacquiao ang dating suot ni Marquez na World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight belt via split decision noong Hunyo ng 2008.

Gusto rin ni trainer Freddie Roach na labanan ni Pacquiao si Marquez para matigil na ang pangungulit ng Mexican. 

“Because they have history between them. You know, they’ve fought twice, and they were close fights. They were very good fights for boxing and very competitive,” ani Roach.

Bukod kay Marquez, iki­nukunsidera rin ni Bob Arum ng Top Rank Promotions na posibleng makasagupa ni Pacquiao sa Mayo ng 2011 sina Floyd Mayweather, Jr., (41-0-0, 25 KOs) at Sugar Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs).
