Send-off ceremony itinakda ng POC ngayon para sa RP delegation sa Asiad

MANILA, Philippines - Isang simpleng send-off ceremony ang nakatakda ngayong gabi sa Philsports Arena sa Pasig City para sa Philippine delegation na lalahok sa 16th Asian Games sa Guangzhou, China sa Nob­yembre 12-27.

Ang naturang okasyon ay dadaluhan ni Vice-Pre­sident Jejomar Binay bilang special guest at ki­na­tawan ni Pangulong Be­nigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, pamangkin ni Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) chief Jose “Peping” Cojuangco, Jr.

Isang misa ang itinakda sa ganap na alas-6 ng gabi kasunod ang talumpati nina Binay, Cojuangco at Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Richie Gar­cia.

Kumpiyansa si Cojuangco na maganda ang ipapa­kita ng delegasyon sa 2010 Guangzhou Asiad.

“I really believe that our athletes are ready in the sense that mentally they are eager to participate, they want to compete, they want to win,” ani Cojuangco.

Sa kabila nito, walang prediksyon na ibinigay si Cojuangco hinggil sa me­dalyang maiuuwi ng mga national athletes mula sa Guangzhou.

“We don’t know what kind of opposition we’ll be facing, and after hearing the words of Mr. (Alex) Ari­za, I’m really more than ever weary if our athletes are really that prepared to compete as compared to the other countries,” wika ng POC head.

Noong 2006 Asian Ga­mes sa Doha, Qatar, nag-uwi ng kabuuang apat na gold, anim na silver at siyam na bronze medals ang de­legasyon.
