MANILA, Philippines - Matapos ang halos 14 taon, makukuha na rin ni Olympic Games silver me­dalist Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco, Jr. ang kanyang cash incentives mula sa Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

Sinabi ni Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chai­rman Richie Garcia na nakipagkita na siya kay PAGCOR chief Cristino Naguit, Jr. para sa nakali­mutang insentibo sa pambato ng Bago City, Negros Occidental.

“I was able to talk to the chairman (Naguit). Prima­rily, I went there because I wanted to follow up on a letter that I wrote the chair­man asking for the incentives of coaches and trainers of our boxers. Sila (Onyok) Velasco pa ‘yan eh, 1996 pa ‘yon na hindi pa naibigay,” ani Garcia.

Noong 1996 Olympic Ga­mes sa Atlanta, USA, su­muntok ang light flyweight na si Velasco ng silver medal.

Ito ang ikalawang silver medal ng bansa sa natu­rang quadrennial event matapos noong 1964 sa Tokyo galing kay featherweight Anthony Villanueva.

Kabuuang P2.7 milyon ang inaprubahan ng PAGCOR para sa mga nabin­bing cash incentives ng 38-anyos na si Velasco at ng ilang coaches mula sa Olympic Games.
