Si Daniel ang NCAA Accel/FilOil Player of the Week

MANILA, Philippines - Mula sa kanyang dominasyon, tinang­hal si American import Sudan Daniel ng San Beda College bilang ACCEL/Filoil NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week na inihahandog ng Gatorade at Terrilicious.

Humakot ang 6-foot-7 na si Daniel ng 19 rebounds, 14 points at 3 shotblocks upang pangunahan ang Red Lions sa 88-76 paggupo sa nagdedepensang San Sebastian Stags patungo sa pagwalis sa first round ng 86th NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

Sinisiw ni Daniel sina Gilbert Bulawan at Most Valuable Player contender Calvin Abueva para sa kanilang pang walong sunod na panalo.

Pinuri naman ni San Beda coach Fran-kie Lim ang tubong Los Angeles, California na tinaguriang “Superman.”

“He was again a monster,” sabi ni Lim kay Daniel.

Tangan ng San Beda ang 8-0 kartada kasunod ang San Sebastian (7-1), Jose Rizal University (7-2), Mapua Institute of Technology (5-4), Arellano University (4-5), Letran College (3-6), Emilio Aguinaldo College (2-6), College of St. Benilde (2-6) at University of Perpetual Help-System Dalta (0-8).  

Sa 2-0 pagwalis ng Stags sa Red Lions sa nakaraang NCAA best-of-three championship series, hindi nakahugot ng kontribusyon si Lim kay Daniel.

“Su was outplayed in last year’s finals. San Sebastian overpowered him convin­ cingly,” wika ni Lim. “But in this game, he learned his mistakes and showed that he can play man-for-man against them.”

Tinalo ni Daniel para sa nasabing weekly honor sina Nate Matute ng Jose Rizal University, Ronnel del Rosario ng Arellano at ang kakamping si Jake Pas­cual.
