'Dirty tactics' ni Nino, 'di na uubra kay Mayol

MANILA, Philippines - Sa kanilang unang pagkikita noong Pebrero 27 sa Guadalajara, Mexico, ini­labas si Filipino champion Rodel Mayol sa venue sakay sa isang stretcher dahil sa low blow ni Mexican challenger Omar Nino Romero.

Sa kanilang rematch bukas, sinabi ni Mayol na handa na siya sa anumang gagawing ‘dirty tactics’ ni Romero.

“I am more than ready,” wika kahapon ni Mayol sa panayam ng ESPN. “I prepared myself much better than the last time with Omar. I am desperate to climb [into] the ring and show everybody why I am the champion. I did not want that end. I was winning the fight but the Mexican gave me an illegal punch to my body and then to the face. I was helpless. Fortunately, the referee [stuck] to the rules.”

Muling itataya ni Mayol ang kanyang suot na World Boxing Council (WBC) light flyweight crown laban kay Romero para sa main event ng “Top Rank Live”sa Queretaro, Mexico.

Sa kabila ng paglalabas kay Mayol sakay ng isang stretcher, ibinigay pa rin sa kanya ng WBC ang kan­yang light flyweight title via three-round technical draw.

Kasalukuyang ibinabandera ni Mayol ang 26-4-2 win-loss-draw ring record kasama ang 20 KOs, samantalang bitbit ni Romero, inagawan si Brian “The Ha­waiian Punch” Viloria ng WBC light flyweight belt noong 2006, ang 28-3-2 (11 KOs) card.
