Douthit pinahanga agad sina Toroman, Lim

MANILA, Philippines - Bukod sa isang dagdag na PBA player, isang ‘na­turalize cager’ rin ang ka­ila­ngan ng Smart Gilas Pi­lipinas para sa darating na 16th Asian Games sa Guangzhou, China.

Sa pagdating ni 6-foot-10 American import Marcus Douthit, nag-iwan ang 6-foot-10 American importng magandang impresyon kina Smart Gilas coach Rajko Toroman, manager Frankie Lim, captain Chris Tiu at iba pang miyembro ng tropa.

“He’s a very clever big guy, good passer, good basketball sense, knows how to use space inside,” sabi ni Toroman sa bete­rano ng European circuit at isang dating Los Angeles Lakers draftee.

Isang ‘all-around player’ naman ang tingin ni Tiu kay Douthit, isang dating Providence standout.

Kung magiging maganda ang laro ni Douthit, posibleng siya na ang ga­wing ‘naturalized player’ ng Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) ni Manny V. Pangilinan.

Si Douthit ang ipaparada ng Smart Gilas sa isang four-day, five-team MVP Invitational na nakatakda sa Hunyo 24-27 sa Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Maliban sa Barangay Ginebra at Talk ‘N Text, ang iba pang kalahok sa torneo ay ang national team ng Jordan at ang Dong Guan ng Chinese Basketball Association (CBA).

“But of course, we have to check him play. Practice is one thing, playing the game in real competition is another thing. But so far, I’m satisfied,” wika ni Toroman.
