Moreno pasok sa 'elite athletes'

MANILA, Philippines - Matapos ang ilang swimmers, tennis players, boxers, taek­wondo jins, karatekas at chess players, isang windsurfer ang ibinilang ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) sa listahan ng mga “elite athletes”.

Inilagay ni PSC chairman Harry Angping si Reneric Moreno sa nasabing grupo matapos manguna sa Emerging Nations Program Windsurfing Regatta sa Perth, Australia.

Sinabi ni Theodore Dizon, ang secretary-general ng Philippine Windsurfing Association, Inc., na ang panalo ni Moreno sa nasabing kompetisyon ang magpapalakas sa tsansa ng ban­sa na makakuha ng gintong medalya sa darating na 16th Asian Games sa Guangzhou, China.

“His success solidifies his training program and preparation plan towards the 2010 Asian Games and surely will secure a slot in the coming training camps towards the Olympic qualifiers in 2011,” sabi ni Dizon sa kanyang liham kay Angping.

Ang mga ‘elite athletes’ na kinilala ng PSC ay sina Biboy Ri­vera ng bowling, Marestella Torres ng athletics, Wesley So, Joey Antonio at Darwin Laylo ng chess, Miguel Molina at Daniel Coakley ng swimming, Rubilen Amit ng billiards and snooker, Tshomlee Go at Mary Antoinette Rivero ng taekwondo, Marna Pabillore ng karatedo at sina Treat Conrad Huey at Cecil Mamiit ng tennis.

Ang mga ‘elite athletes’ ay tatanggap ng P20,000 monthly allowances mula sa sports com­mission kumpara sa nakuku­hang P15,000, P10,000 at P6,000 ng mga miyembro ng national training pool.

Nagpakitang gilas si Moreno nang angkinin ang gold medal sa RS:X class laban sa 40 par­tisipante mula sa 10 bansa na kinabibilangan nina Tim Gourlay at Eamon Robertshaw ng Australia.
