'Super elite' RP pugs gagabayan ni Velasco

MANILA, Philippines - Ang Olympian na si Roel Velasco ang siyang napili ng Ama­teur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) bilang head trainer ng isang “super elite” ng national boxers na bibigyan ng solidong suporta.

Limang batang amateur pugs ang siyang hahawakan ni Velasco, nakatatandang kapatid ni 1996 Atlanta Olympic silver me­dalist Mansueto “Onyok” Ve­lasco, Jr.

Ang naturang ‘super elite’ ay binubuo nina Charly Suarez (57kg. featherweight), Annie Al­bania (51kg. flyweight), Rey Saludar (51kg. flyweight), Victorio Saludar (48 kg. light flyweight) at Mark Anthony Barriga (youth 48 kg. light flyweight).

Si Velasco, assistant coach ng national women’s team, ay su­muntok ng bronze medal sa 1992 Olympics sa Barcelona, Spain.

Dadalhin ang nasabing mga atleta sa mga boxing camps ng Australia at United States, sabi ni ABAP executive director Ed Piczon

Samantala, patuloy na namayagpag ang mga pambato ng Tayabas at Romblon sa junior boys 50 kilogram division ng PLDT-ABAP Luzon Area Boxing Tournament.

 Sa 32 kg. school boys class, tinalo ni Julius Peñamora ng Ta­yabas A ang ka-grupong si Joel Peñamora ng Tayabas B, 3-0, at binigo ni Tayabas C bet Arche Esteleydes si Rommel Opemaria, 10-0.
