SEAG veteran 'di umubra sa batang shooter

MANILA, Philippines - Niyanig ni Jayson Valdez, 15-anyos na mag-aaral mula sa Malate Catholic School junior at produkto ng shooting as­sociation’s NYDP (National Youth Development Program), ang many-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist na si Eme­rito Concepcion nang dominahin ang 50-meter 3-position rifle event na idinaos nitong nakaraang Linggo sa buwanang qualifying tournament para sa Asian Games sa PSC/Marines range sa Fort Bonifacio.

Gamit ang lumang baril na kabilang kay youth team head coach Bartolome Teyab, uma­sinta si Valdez ng 1,106 puntos sa prone, kneeling at standing positions upang hiyain ang ma­higpit na paboritong beteranong si Concepcion ng apat na puntos.

“Valdez really surprised eve­ry­­one with his performance,” ani Laos SEAG gold medalist at NYDP chair Nathaniel “Tac” Padilla, na nananatiling top pistol shooter matapos na manalo sa 25-meter standard at rapid fire events.

Bumawi naman si Concepcion sa men’s 10-meter air rifle event nang kanyang itumba si Valdez ng 5 puntos, 571-576.

Tumudla si Padilla ng 551 at 566 sa standard at rapid fire, ayon sa pagkakasunod upang kumawala kina Robert Donalvo (546 at 538) at Ronald Hejastro (539 at 535).
