Reyes tinanghal na Player of the Decade ng USBMA

MANILA, Philippines - Kung si Manny Pacquiao ang kinilalang “Boxer of the Decade” ng Boxing Writer’s Association of America (BWAA), si Efren “Bata” Reyes naman ang tinanghal na “Player of the Decade” ng United States Billiard Media Association (USBMA).

 Tinalo ng cue master na si Reyes para sa naturang ka­rangalan sina dating world champions Johnny “The Scorpion” Archer ng United States, Mika “The Iceman” Immonen ng Finland at Ralf “Kaiser” Souquet ng Germany.

 Naisama na rin ang panga­lan ng 55-anyos na tubong Pampanga sa Billiard Congress of America (BCA) Hall of Fame noong 2003.

Sa Azbilliards.com, nakakolekta na si Reyes ng $1.7 milyon na prize money, bukod pa rito ang kanyang kabuuang kinitang $47,500 sa isang torneo sa Indiana, USA.

Ang naturang billiards event sa Indiana na pinagharian ni Reyes ay ang Master of the Ta­ble Crown sa 12th Annual Derby City Classic sa Horseshoe Casino at Hotel.

Muling dinomina ni Reyes ang nasabing torneo sa pang limang sunod na pagkakataon.

Halos 22 major events na ang napagwagian ni Reyes sa buong dekada simula sa $30,000 Camel Pro 8-Ball Championship noong 2000. At sa kanyang mga tagumpay, apat na one-pocket crowns, apat na 8-ball titles at 15 9-ball belts ang inangkin ng “The Magician”.

Limang ulit rin niyang pinamahalaan ang Derby City All- Around maliban pa ang pagi­ging unang Filipino na nagwagi sa World Pool 9-ball Championships sa Cardiff, Wa­les noong 1999. (Russell Cadayona)
