Women's boxing kasama pa rin sa Asiad

MANILA, Philippines - Walang dapat ipa­ngamba ang mga Fi­lipi­na boxers para sa 16th Asian Games sa Guangzhou, China sa Nobyembre.

Inihayag kahapon ni Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) executive director Ed Picson na na­kausap na niya si Asian Boxing Confe­deration (ASBC) president Richard Cheng ukol sa pagkakasama ng women’s boxing sa Guangzhou Asiad.

“The Guangzhou Organizing Committee has already announced that women’s boxing will be included in the Asian Games this November,” sabi ni Picson kay Cheng. “There will be women boxing in the Asian Games sabi niya.”

Sa limang gintong medalyang nasungkit ng ABAP buhat sa nakaraang 25th Southeast Asian Games sa Laos, tatlo rito ay mula sa wo­men’s boxing.

­ Ang boxing event ang isa sa mga sports events na inaasahang huhugot ng gintong me­­­dal­ya ang mga Filipino athletes sa 2010 Guangzhou Asiad.

Sina flyweight Violito Payla at bantamweight Joan Tipon ang su­muntok ng dalawa sa kabuuang apat na gold medals na nakolekta ng Team Philippines mula sa 2006 Asian Games sa Doha, Qatar. (Russell Cadayona)
