Sosa-Mayol rematch tiniyak

MANILA, Philippines - Tiniyak kahapon ni Mexican Edgar Sosa na magkakaroon sila ng rematch ng bagong world light flyweight champion na si Rodel Mayol sa 2010.

Ito ang inihayag kahapon ni Sosa hinggil sa inaasahan niyang muling pakikipagkita kay Mayol na umagaw sa dati niyang suot na World Boxing Council (WBC) light flyweight crown.

Sinamantala ang 'accidental' head-butt, tinalo ni Mayol si Sosa via second-round TKO upang tanggalan ng titulo ang Mexican noong Nobyembre 21 sa Chiapas, Mexico.

“Me and Mayol will meet in the ring again," pangako ni Sosa, sumailalim sa isang surgery upang lagyan ng ilang titanium plates ang kanyang panga bukod pa ang ilang turnilyo sa kanyang pisngi at ilong mula sa pagkakabugbog sa kanya ni Mayol.

Sampung beses naidepensa ng 30-anyos na si Sosa ang WBC light flyweight belt na kanyang nakuha matapos talunin si Brian "THe Hawaiian Punch" Viloria via unanimous decision noong Abril 14, 2007.

“Mentally, it was difficult to overcome the realization that I was no longer a world champion and the way it happened,” ani Sosa. “I lost the title without actually losing the fight. God knows why things happen. I’m recovering and will be back in the ring in 2010–like a champion.”

Matapos agawin ang korona kay Sosa, nakatakda naman itong ipagtanggol ng 28-anyos na si Mayol kay Mexican challenger Omar Nino Romero sa Marso 13, 2010 sa MGM Grand Garden Arena sa Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tangan ni Mayol ang 26-4-1 win-loss-draw ring record kasama ang 20 KOs kumpara sa 28-3-1 (11 KOs) card ng 33-anyos na si Romero. (Russell Cadayona)
